Flexible recording systems

When high framerates and high resolution  must be combined with long recording times, pvRecord is the ideal solution for sequence recording and trouble shooting.

From single camera solutions to individual, synchronised multi-camera video arrays, phil-vision provides scalable, easy to use 2D and 3D recording solutions for various applications.

The modular, operator friendly systems allow compressed or uncompressed recording of extremely fast processes and are characterised in particular by the possiblity to use high-quality RAW images directly for automated processing, while at the same time compressing individual images or complete videos for archiving.

Up to 16 monochrome or colour cameras, high-resolution cameras or 3D cameras with a variety of interfaces can be used as image sources.

Our recording systems are extremely flexible. To help you estimate the cost of a PC-based system solution for typical recording applications with various options, we have developed a cost calculator.

Versatile applications

In industrial and scientific machine vision there are many application areas where continuous recording of sequences may be needed. The video data that the system stores may be used for documentation and/or later analysis.
Multi-camera motion capture, long-duration production line trouble-shooting also from remote work places or high speed recordings for subsequent slow motion analysis are examples where capturing image and video sequences for time-lapse analysis will help with production as well as process monitoring and conclusive evidence for prodcution quality.
pvRecord systems can also be used for surveillance/monitoring in different areas, for material analysis and microscopic applications (i.e. monitoring cell transportation processes) or for sequence recording in the medical field (i.e. patient records for remote diagnosis or training videos on surgical techniques).
Sport analyis is another field where recording systems can be used for statistical evaluation and to improve techniques. Vehicle crash testing and traffic surveillance are another area where camera based systems are frequently used and even demanding outdoor applications such as high-speed recording of the output from rocket and jet engine exhausts are examples of use.
In all these areas of application, automated image processing analysing the video data can be performed while at the same time archiving the data for later analysis is done, e.g. recognition of birds approaching a wind turbine, or a stereo application where a 3D point cloud is created and objects are recognised. Another application where recording solutions are often used is the recognition of fonts, barcodes or any characters in order to automatically name the archiving files with this information.

The pvRecord family

The possibilities of the pvRecord family are extraordinarily diverse. The focus is always on reliability. In addition to standard systems, we naturally also implement customised solutions tailored to individual customer requirements.

pvRecord Basic: Industrial computer, connection of up to 2 cameras, resolutions up to 20 Mpixel, when using 1.6 megapixel cameras - recording frequency 238 frames persecond. Up to 500 GB video capacity per camera.

pvRecord Pro: Rugged portable or embedded industrial computer, optionally with digital and/or serial I/O, connection of up to 16 GigE cameras or up to 4 cameras using 5GigE, USB3.0, CameraLink or equivalent interfaces. Resolutions up to 150 Mpixel, when connecting two 65 megapixel cameras - maximum recording frequency 18 frames per second, typical application with four 2.8 megapixel cameras allow recording of 173 frames per second. Recording capacity of up to 2 TB at high speed and up to 18 TB at low/medium speed per camera, various compression modes, extensive trigger and synchronisation capabilities

Software and user interface

The software allows recording of video sequences from single or multiple high-speed cameras and robust and secure image storage directly to RAM or hard disk in various formats. Industrial RAID hard disk arrays guarantee maximum data availability and safety and impressive data rates. It is also possible to store large amounts of data into the RAM first and move them to hard disks after the end of the recording. Customised players can also be supplied on request.

Frames are streamed directly to standard AVI files on disk as RAW frames or compressed using a DirectShow codec. (MPEG compression or h264/h265 compression). Additional features such as adding user specific information like a system name or a timestamp can be directly synchronised to the image data.

The intuitive user interface allows easy switching between the live views of different cameras or setting of various camera control features like ROI, exposure time, gain, frame rate. Setting the file path or the video duration, image adjustments or changes between compressed and uncompressed recording, or the use of hardware triggers are easily possible.

Trigger scenarios

Besides the classical hardware trigger, an electric signal or pressing a button, buzzer or foot pedal, it is also possible to use the image content (ROI) as trigger. If image data changes significantly in intensity or there has been movement, the camera triggers itself and the recording starts (i.e. speed recording or crash test).
