Pixels, projects, precision

My path into machine vision

From tracking soccer balls with millimeter accuracy to protecting birds of prey at wind turbines, to electronics inspection, I love projects that combine precision and innovation.

Here's how I learned that the best solutions come from the most unexpected combinations and why pixels are my passion:

From independence to innovation

I've always seen pixels differently. Not as tiny colored squares on a screen, but as building blocks to solve real problems. Back in 2015, I took the leap into independent machine vision work, just me, my curiosity, and an unshakeable belief that every challenge in the area of machine vision has a solution hiding in plain sight.

By 2017, that solo journey led me to co-found phil-vision, where I could combine my passion for development with projects that really matter. As managing director, I focus on project management and development, with a particular passion for recording solutions and artificial intelligence.

The projects that excited me most in my past, were the ones where innovation and precision come together.

  • Soccer tracking: Achieving millimeter accuracy in a world of constant motion
  • AI-powered bird detection at wind turbines: Using machine vision to spot birds of prey and automatically adjust turbine operation
  • Electronics testing in industry, where even the slightest error can have major consequences

Beyond the code: From algorithms to real solutions

Technically, my expertise centers on C++ development and hardware interface design, but honestly? The code is just the beginning.

Every project starts the same way: someone has a problem they can't quite articulate, in an environment that's never quite ideal, with constraints that seem designed to make things interesting. That's where the real work begins, not just writing algorithms, but turning ideas into reality, improving processes, and designing technologies that make a tangible difference in our customers’ everyday lives.

What drives me: Creating value, not just technology

Technology for technology's sake has never interested me. What gets me excited is using these tools to create sustainable added value, solutions that don't just work, but make a genuine difference in how people do their jobs, or solve problems they didn't even know they had.

Because at the end of the day, pixels are just the raw material. The real magic happens when you transform them into insights, actions, and outcomes that matter.

The journey continues: The most exciting challenges are still ahead

From those early days working solo to co-founding phil-vision, every project has taught me something new about the intersection of precision and innovation.
And honestly? The most exciting challenges are still ahead of us.
