The day we counted cables instead of pixels

A day in the life of a machine vision company

There are days at phil-vision when we write code, tune lighting concepts, and optimize machine vision systems down to the last pixel…
...and then there are inventory days.

Instead of algorithms, we suddenly find ourselves counting screws. One by one. Carefully. While quietly thinking that we would prefer programming.

Everything goes well.
Until it doesn’t...

Somewhere between cameras, lenses, and lighting modules, we realize that one camera is booked into the wrong storage location.
Not a big deal. At least that’s what we think. Until we remember that the serial number has already been assigned.

What follows is a classic inventory chain reaction.
The inventory run has to be stopped. The serial number has to be “re-invented”. The system refuses to continue.
And just like that, one small mismatch turns into an extra hour of work. For everyone.

Highly automated vision systems.
Manually counted screws.
And a reminder that even in high-tech companies, reality still happens.

Behind our lens, it’s not always about perfect images. Sometimes it’s about patience, teamwork,
and getting through inventory day with a sense of humour.
